Pre appointment prep

So you’ve booked in with us…. Here’s how to get ready to find the one!

1) Choose your team wisely...

The crew selected to come with you on this very special journey should be uplifting and appreciative of the fact this is your day, your choice and your gown. Sometimes buddies that are the best fun to have as friends don't make the best choice for this so think carefully…

Who needs to be there? is someone purchasing the gown for you for example, would you like your mother in law to join in on the process? It's perfectly fine if this is a no, just gently explain that you're having a small team to support you and organise something else to include her in. Above all check the number of people allowed for the boutique (particularly now!) and remember too many people present can give an overwhelming amount of opinions.

2) Choose your budget...

It really does not matter what it is but decide on one, and remember to account for alterations (which every bride will require) and accessories to complete your look. Knowing this will ensure that you don't get drawn into trying on gowns which will stretch your budget beyond what is manageable.

3) Collate images of gowns you like...

There's an abundance of information online and saving some images of gowns you like will help you in getting a feel for your natural style. Learning some of the terminology to describe your dream gown will also aid your bridal stylist in picking appropriate pieces to try.

4) Shop ahead of time...

Don't leave the dress until last if you can help it, the selected gown can often determine the style of the wedding. Don't be afraid to say yes to the first gown you try! More often than not brides will come back to their first selection, so if it ticks the boxes you are looking for, gives you all the feels and you don't want to take it off....well, how do you improve on perfect?

5) Go prepared!...

Wear nude underwear, if you know you'll be wearing shapewear pop that on. Don't worry about a bra as gowns often have a full integral bra and boning making you feel safe and secure. Bring shoes of your desired heel height with you too, some boutiques will have a range of shoes but it's not forced to have your particular size/heel height available so always best to be prepared.

6) Forget the number on the label

Bridal gowns often don't run as high street sizing does so ignore the label and look at the gown itself and how you feel in it. All gowns will require some adjustment by a seamstress and the vast majority can be taken in a couple of sizes and let out in areas so it fits you perfectly.

7) Be open to new ideas...

Sometimes the bridal party and/or stylist will know you better than you know yourself! It's always a nice idea to let your party choose a dress or two for you to try...you never know you may be surprised!

8) Remember the season/climate...

Are you having a summer or winter wedding? Are you going abroad or staying homebound? These factors could impact on the type of gown or weight of material you will feel most comfortable in on the day. Have a chat with your stylist, a tropical wedding doesn't necessarily rule out a full skirted princess gown, it means the material or number of layers can be looked at for you to make it work.

9) Accessorise!...

Try the gown you love with some jewellery/heels/veil to get total confirmation. often seeing a "completed" look will cement the decision for you and remove any niggle whatsoever.

10) Look for a deal...

If you buy your gown, veil, head pieces, jewellery, shoes etc from one shop it takes out the headache of "does this go together/will it be too much/will it look right/do I like it on" and what's more you're likely to be able to get a great discount too!
